As the evenings draw in, much earlier, and there is a chill in the Autumn air, it is time to reflect on our first summer season, as Rochester Blind Bowling Group. We could not have enjoyed this time without the support of our friends, at Cranborne Bowling Club, in Rochester; and it is with great thanks to them that we have been able to meet and practise, every Monday, when the weather, too, has been kind enough to permit our bowling.

Statistically, we could be said to have had a poor season. Played 8 - won 0, drawn 1 and lost 7. This would be a cruel interpretation of what were eight extremely enjoyable encounters, where - in every case - we made new friends or renewed old acquaintances. It is also a fact that every club we visited put out strong teams, as they were aware that there was enough skill amongst our membership to merit taking the games seriously.

Our better recorded results were a drawn match, against Tenterden (2-2) and two matches where we managed to win on one of the four rinks, against Marden and at Jackson Field, against Cranborne.

Many thanks to the clubs who invited us to play and who treated us to some splendid feasts. A word of gratitude, also, to the volunteers that drove us to the various venues, across the county. We could not have played all our matches, either, without the willing participation of some of our members with full sight, who carried out 'skip' duties from time to time.

We are, of course, looking forward to more contests, next summer. We are hoping to bowl aginst the same clubs as this year, but would be happy to accept invitations from any new opposition.

Find out how well our bowlers fared in competition. Terry, Ian, Hans and David took part in the Gravesham Cup, at the end of June. Also, you can learn how the two RBBG competitions went - the RBBG Cup and the RBBG Shild.

Two other great occasions were the Cranborne Bowling Club Drives. Each of these was followed by a quiz and evening meal. Read all about them in
