Last year, Phyllis Styles, from Sevenoaks, organised the first Inter Clubs Quiz, to replace the old KAB competition. RBBG won that final KAB competition, as well as last year’s inaugural quiz, and we returned to Sevenoaks, eager to defend our crown.
Phyllis had followed the Sevenoaks Blind Club, over the last dozen or so years, when they and Dengate disputed the KAB title, and this year she had Dengate join us, so that three of the heavyweight clubs were in contention. There were, also, teams from Maidstone and Sittingbourne who had success in the KAB years.
There were rounds on music, sport, books and films, royalty, initials (which covered a wide range) and divinity - plus a very unusual running round, where abbreviations and symbols were clues to form words. An exciting contest saw RBBG prevail once more. The same team as last year, Doreen, Ev, Norman, Chris, Hans and Brian, found plenty to argue about en route to a pretty decent score. It had to be, in that company.
Phyllis was a very fluent and composed quizmaster and, despite the underlying rivalry, there was a good deal of hilarity, during the proceedings. With an excellent tea and raffle to round things off, we had been given a great afternoon and our thanks to Phyllis and her team for a job well done.
