  ABOUT ROCHESTER BLIND BOWLING GROUP

  RBBG, Rochester Blind Bowling Group, is a small gathering of blind & visually impaired bowlers, from in and around the Medway Towns, in Kent. These members are joined by a small band of friends that have full sight and who provide help and support in many ways, enabling the club to thrive as it does.

  We meet, once a week, to practise for matches and play friendly or competitive games. Our fixtures include matches against teams of fully-sighted bowlers from clubs across the county, that are always enjoyable occasions.

  During the winter months, we play indoors, at Prince Arthur Bowling Club, in Gillingham (lower left). In the summer months, we play at the Cranborne Bowling Club, next to Jackson Field, Rochester (lower right).

  The game, for visually impaired bowlers, is almost exactly the same as for those with good vision. A string is stretched from either end of the rink, to aid those with poor eyesight. When a player bowls his/her wood, the marker calls where it has reached in relation to the jack and other woods (see Blind Bowling Explained).

  Some of our members have been with the club (formerly known as the Medway Blind Bowling Group) for up to 20 years.

  One of the pictures (not on this page), shows Peter Norwood, Isabella Williams and Terry Fisher. Between them, these three have been members for a combined total of more than 45 years.
 
  Essentially, we are a small group of enthusiasts. It's great to invite new blood, but there is a physical limit to the number we can accommodate, though there might be room for one more!
