storming finish by Miriam, Brian and Rob to take five, then seven shots in those two ends for what became a very decisive winning margin at 21-12. It just shows how valuable it is, in a bad end, to get just one wood into the mix and cut down the big scores.

Rink 5 saw Barbara, David and Maurice just manage to hold on. Maureen, Loretta and Jenny took four shots in what proved to be the last end, and another like it would have got them home. As it was, RBBG took the win at 14-11 in a tight contest which saw a lot of ends decided by a single shot.

This takes us to our secret weapon – not so secret these days! With Julie, Mary in the first half, then Pat in the second, Mick led his triple to RBBG rink honours with a 16-9 victory. Again, a lot of single shot wins, though five shots in the tenth end to Mote’s Sid, Maeve and Peter provided a real threat, but RBBG held on.

It was a most enjoyable afternoon in really good company, thank you, Mote Park for that and also for the bonus of a generous donation of the raffle proceeds, £65, to our group funds. We are also hoping to take that shield home from you again – maybe next time!
