If you are (or someone you know is) a visually impaired person, then you may be in need of help. You may need to contact your local Sight Centre - or association for the blind - for us, in Kent, the name we can turn to is KAB (Kent Association for the Blind). In most cases, this should be your first port of call. Nationally, there is the RNIB, Royal National Institute for the Blind, based in London. Click on either of the icons, below, to access the website of either of these organisations.
These organizations offer various means of support, including:
Advice, guidance and coaching in finding and use of LVAs (low visual aids)Rehabilitation supportTraining courses in mobility, I.T. and use of computers ... and moreAdvice and information about clubs, groups, activities and a wide variety of events featuring audio description and tactile discoveryFree subscription to local, audio newspapersRegular updates about whats going on, by mail or emailA strong volunteer force
There are, also, areas of support, to which visually impaired individuals are entitled. Although these entitlements are available, they are not always brought to the attention of someone who has become visually impaired (or blind).
In this section of our website, we shall endeavour to bring these to you attention - so that you can claim what is rightfully yours!
Below you will find links to how you can claim these rights or benefits for yourself - or on behalf of someone you know who is visually impaired.
