Two days after returning from a long weekend, together, at Hayling Island, some of the members of RBBG met up, again, for a bus ride to Hastings - writes Chris:
It was good to see some members of the group, that had not made it to Hayling Island, join us for a trip to Hastings. The journey, down and back, was uneventful - except for the diversion, at Staplehurst, due to a very large fire (which featured on BBC TV’s Southern news).
I now have to admit that neither Norman nor I saw anything of Hastings, since the mini bus managed to stop outside a pub, which is one of the best, in Hastings, for its real ale. It would have been a crime to ignore it! Between the odd pint of "Dark Star" and "Summer Lightning", we had a really good time, helped along by a bumper portion of fish pie.
2.30 p.m. came around, far too quickly, and I hadn't bought any fish. We both managed the incredibly long journey (across the road) to the fish shop, where I purchased sardines, mackerel, a crab and some beautiful, hot smoked salmon, smoked in their own smoke house. The whelks and crab, I fear, did not last the day out - the temptation was just too much. I understand that the rest of the group found a very nice fish and chip restaurant, where they doubtless caused chaos.
It was a really enjoyable day, Thank you, everybody, for not going missing or getting lost.
