MANY HAPPY RETURNS - WELL, THREE AT LEAST

February 2017 has featured three ‘returns’ for RBBG.

The least significant of the above is the return to action of the RBBG quiz team, on Saturday, February 18th, at Prince Arthur (PA). Quizzes there are, for us, synonymous with the late Trevor Bishop, recent PA Captain and deviser of both standard and off-beat quiz rounds. A big act to follow, but the team at PA put their own stamp on the night, with a hilarious opening session of ‘Blind Date’ to set the quiz under way and to lead into its first round, based on Valentines. The RBBG team lived up to its high standard - joint top (with caterers, Garnishes) in the stand-alone picture round and clear winners of the main event.

The quiz also saw the return to RBBG action for Norman, after a very tough fifteen months or so, and he enjoyed the evening – we were glad to see him back as, with Ev, Sandra and, possibly, Hans, he is the mainstay of the team. And he felt good enough to want to be back at our Tuesday roll up, as a spectator, of course, to support the third return, this time to the rink itself, of our very own, the one and only, Bella.

Since breaking her leg (in several places) in 2013, Bella has been breaking her heart to play again. She did manage a few ends, at some matches, in 2015, our 25th anniversary season, but it was clearly a struggle, and a lot of pain, and she had another operation, last September. At her review, last week, the surgeon told her she could try to bowl, again, but to take it carefully, not overdo it. Bella assured us that she would be careful, remember there is another week, next week when she can bowl, if she does not suffer for this week!

So, on Tuesday 21st, Bella took to the green with Chris (and Mick in attendance), trying to ensure that this would be a good experience with no damage done. The day was a huge success, as both bowlers made it through the session – and both looking forward to their next outing.

Three cheers and very happy returns to Norman, Chris and Bella.
