We were a few short with late injuries and illness, but RBBG still mustered attenders in double figures, for both drive and quiz, at Cranborne. Not the warmest bank holiday, but it stayed dry and still a comfortable temperature, even as we made our way home in the evening, which was pretty good going for August, 2011 - writes Brian M.
Captain Graham wanted a relaxed and informal afternoon, on the green, and the company took him at his word, Geoff in particular. Several RBBG personnel were in his sights, and Bella certainly responded to his offer of a kiss with some sparkling woods, in the last series of matches. Graham and Hans joined Geoff in a friendly discussion on what it is that constitutes ‘firing’ and ‘playing with weight’, with several practical demonstrations thrown in, followed by some fine examples of 'blockers'. All in all, great fun. The results, on such a day, are incidental, but for the record, the top points’ scorer was Ken, with a total of 29. The wooden spoon was awarded, but the recipient’s name is not recorded here!
Doreen had supplied us with tea and biscuits; then, after the drive, she moved into quiz hostess mode, with Aubrey in the engine room for marking and scoring. There were only four points covering the top three teams, but for once RBBG had to give best to another table, a Cranborne team winning and just the one point between our two sides.
With just an interval for tea (Doreen again!) and the raffle (Chris, perhaps, already using his prize, the last – washing up liquid!!), we finished a most enjoyable session that raised a very decent sum for Cranborne funds. Thanks to everyone involved, particularly to Doreen, as you may have gleaned from the narrative.
