August Bank Holiday at Cranborne

Once again, Cranborne Bowling Club have hosted a great day, with a bowls drive, music and song, food and a splendid quiz. Well done - and thanks, from us at RBBG.

Two bowlers pipped nearby challengers to the winning post, with nineteen points each. Unsurprisingly, one of these was Barry K., but the other was Anne L., who was presented with the winner's prize. Well done, Anne.

The evening was a mixture of music and song, thanks to Keith on the accordian, food, all prepared by Doreen and Aubrey (except for a lovely trifle from Chris) and a quiz, featuring seven rounds of questions, also courtesy Doreen and Aubrey.

A raffle helped to boost the takings for the day, so that Aubrey could announce that a sum of well over £100 would be added to the amount to be presented to the charity, 'Help the Heroes', for which there is a concert, on Sunday, September 5, in Bredhurst.

Team 4, comprising Bill, Norman, Chris, Evelina, Hans and (guest member) Keith, kept up RBBG's winning streak, in the quiz - always one of the highlights on these occasions!

Once again, thanks,
for a very enjoyable day

The afternoon started with a bowls drive. In all, there were twenty taking part.

Members of RBBG, taking part in the competition, included Anne L., Bella W., Ian A., Chris P., Marian R., Pete B., Bill H., Lynn F., Hans F., Pat F. Albert F. and Ann H. (a member of Cranborne). Also supporting were Terry F., Norman W. and Tom R..

As ever, our members took their time to grasp the complexities of the tournament - as did several from Cranborne.

Because of the numbers taking part, the competition was arranged so that there would be two sets of six, playing Triples, and one set of eight bowlers, playing Rinks. To make scoring opportunities fair, it was arranged for all those playing Rinks to use two woods, as would the skips playing Triples. The lead and second bowlers could use three woods, each, to bowl. This meant that each end could have a score of up to eight points! Most ends, though, were won by a single point or two.

After two rounds, we adjourned for a cup of tea, after which there were two more rounds of the competition. Without markers, dedicated to the VI members, scoring went a little astray for some, but by the end of four rounds, there was a result ...
