ROCHESTER BLIND BOWLING GROUP

CRANBORNE HOSPITALITY AT ITS BEST

Cranborne Bowling Club, who so kindly welcomed us back to use their clubhouse as a base this season, hosted a match against RBBG, on Wednesday, August 26th.

With a few absentees from the home club’s numbers, rink 4 saw RBBG members, Norman, Ann and Anne , playing as Cranborne, beat RBBG members, Trudy (for the first eight ends), Bella (for the last eight ends, her fridge/freezer at last repaired), Chris and David by 21 shots to 8. Perhaps we could treat this as a win/win affair!

The all girls unit, comprising Doreen, Marian and Hetty, again met strong opponents, in Elsie, Dave and Aubrey, so to lose by 20-9 is no disgrace. It is a pure fluke, but they do seem to draw some quality opposition.

Pat, Terry and Hans were tied 6-6 after 9 ends, but, disastrously, lost 7 shots in the next two ends, to Elsie, Eric and Barry, which gave the home side a commanding lead of 13-6. Single shot wins, at the next four ends, cut the deficit to 13-10, but with Barry took the last, giving Cranborne the match, 14-10.

However, congratulations to Bill, Ian and Pat, who led 9-4 after 7 ends. Over the next 5 ends, Elena, Ken and Bob hauled them back to themselves lead, 11-10. 4 shots to RBBG (a big end FOR us for once! ... and what a difference it makes!), put us back in the lead at 14-11, but once again Cranborne were not going to see us get away and, on the final end, the teams stood level at 14 all. Winner takes all and it was RBBG who took the shot and overall victory, by 15-14.

It was a great afternoon’s bowling, in good company, a fine tea (thank you, Kay) and our usual good fortune in the raffle. We took the opportunity to have a photo of a good number of our group, with Aubrey (whose fund raising has made such a difference for us in this, our first year, in a new incarnation), in our splendid club shirts, which would have made a big hole in our funds, without the monies raised by Aubrey and Doreen (who had other fund-raising commitments on the day). We owe a big debt to Aubrey, Doreen - and to all the members of Cranborne, whose support has contributed so much to a great year, for us.

We look forward to joining them, again, on Monday, in fact, for the drive and quiz!

  Match Result:

  Cranborne 3 – 1 RBBG
  Norman, Ann & Ann 21 – 8 Chris, Trudy/Bella & David
  Elsie, Dave & Aubrey 20 - 9 Doreen, Marian & Hetty
  Elsie, Eric & Barry 14 - 10 Pat, Terry & Hans
  Elena, Ken & Bob 14 - 15 Bill, Ian & Pat
