Marden v RBBG

A Great Day At Marden

I remember that a couple of years ago we arrived at Marden hoping to get a game only to manage to play about three ends before the heavens opened, last Thursday was quite the reverse. A beautiful sunny day with just a little of a cool breeze and lots of smiling faces, old friends that we may only meet once a year but it is as if we had just seen them last week.

RBBG had a few members off sick but it looked like we could manage four triples. It was Marden that came up with one player short, they hoped that someone might step in but it did not happen so, it fell to Barbara, Marian and Hans to play with two woods each while Rob and Ray had the luxury of three. Our players who I might add are not particularly used to playing with two woods suffered badly. Their bowling was excellent but just when they thought they would win by a couple of shots the very accurate bowling of Marden put paid to that.

Rinks 2 with Terry ,Tom and Maurice had a much better time. Peter, Ken and Tony had it all their own way for the first four end but then RBBG started and a few ends with Rochester claiming three at a time put the score right. In the end, a draw. Well done.

Michael was dragooned into playing his first full match and with Peter B and Geoff they had a pretty even game ending five shots short of Marden.
The heroics came on rink3 where Penney was persuaded to try and play a full game even though her back was hurting, Bella, who was to share half a game with her friend Peter Burnett and David as skip managed, I don't know how to end up on shot short of Marden at fifteen to fourteen. Bella managed ten ends, amazing and Penney only dropped out for a couple of ends when she was in a little too much pain.

Overall 61 to 44 Not bad for a team of such a mix of health problems and experience. Very well done1 A lovely tea, plenty of it including Bella's sponges, sausage rolls and cheese and onions. Bella won the whisky raffle and Marden raised £92 as a donation towards our club. Everybody left with big smiles after a beautiful day in the lovely village of Marden with the best of friends and wonderful weather.
