Bella's Shield - Hans v Mark

Mark ran into Hans in good form, the accidental change from his favourite ‘spotty’ woods at Friday’s session seemingly working well for him. Five shots in the first three ends gave Hans a good lead, but in the fourth Mark bowled to six inches on a long jack, took second too, and his third was only a fraction short of running into third wood, but he was back in the game. He held two shots in the fifth end, another long jack, before promoting Hans into second, but he was now just 3-5 behind.

In the sixth end, looking for another very long jack, Mark put the jack into the ditch, and after setting a twenty-nine yard jack Hans took two to lead 7-3. And to ram home his advantage Hans’ first wood in the seventh was perfect, resting as touching jack. His next was almost as good, a fraction extra weight springing the jack, but only a few inches and with two woods within a foot he was now 9-3 ahead. Mark needed two maximums to tie, theoretically possible, but with just the one shot to Mark in the eighth he could not stop Hans progressing to the final
