Bella's Shield - Maurice v David

Maurice v David

It is a long time since we played in wet conditions, but after the previous day’s rain it was a damp green awaiting the players. On a twenty-eight yard jack David took the shot in the first, but on the same length in the second Maurice held shot at eighteen inches and his third ran the jack closer still; on a measure he had three to lead 3-1. David was close to the thirty-one yard jack for shot in the third till Maurice got even closer for 4-1.

Maurice set a thirty-four yard jack in the fourth and every wood finished short of the jack, but Maurice had two closer to lead 6-1. David took shot on a measure with a thirty yard jack in the fifth for 2-6, but he set the jack short of the minimum length in the sixth. Maurice, too, was short so the jack went to thirty yards, as per rules, and held shot with each player one wood to play. David would have taken second for sure, maybe contended shot, but ran into his own short wood. However, Maurice’s last wood did the job for him, promoting the short wood into second, so Maurice led7-2. Taking clear shot in the seventh on a twenty-eight yard jack, Maurice also had second, just, and so he was through to the final against Hans.
